The Government of India has conferred SMIORE with the highest safety awards, including the prestigious 'National Safety Awards (Mines)' for the years 1983, 1991 and 2017. Initiated for the first time by DGMS, SMIORE was awarded National Level Mines Safety Award -2023 under opencast category to be only one qualified opencast mine from the State of Karnataka. These awards are focused on the safety norms in the working conditions for the mineworkers so that the environment is accident-free and has a low injury rate.
